The Original Review

IGN — Mitchell Saltzman
Rated: 8/10 · Published:
“Dragon's Dogma 2 is a captivating action RPG full of surprises.”

MITCHELL SALTZMAN AGAIN? Is there only one person working at IGN? Does this man have a family? Does he sleep? Or does he just live in a Capcom review event pod, emerging every few months to hand out 8/10s like a Pez dispenser?

Let me tell you what Mitchell's 'captivating' review conveniently forgot to mention until it was too late: the single save file, the always-online DRM on launch, and — oh, this is my favorite — the microtransactions in a $70 single-player game that let you pay real money for fast travel and character customization. These aren't minor footnotes. These are consumer rights issues. But Mitchell was too busy being 'captivated' to notice.

The review was published BEFORE the day-one patch that the community rioted over. It was based on a pre-release build that apparently didn't include the full monetization scheme. So IGN reviewed a different product than what consumers purchased. That's not a review, that's false advertising with extra syllables.

I want to speak to whoever is in charge of IGN's ethics policy. I have been on hold for twenty years. 2/10.
