IGN wrote 2,000 words about BG3 without a single negative sentence
The Original Review
“Baldur's Gate 3 is a new high point for CRPGs and one of the best RPGs I've ever played.”
Look, I'm not saying Baldur's Gate 3 isn't a great game. What I'm saying is that IGN's 10/10 review reads like it was written by someone in the first 72 hours of a new relationship — everything is perfect, there are no flaws, and any problems are actually charming quirks. The Act 3 performance issues? 'Minor.' The broken quest flags? 'Endearing.' Leana, blink twice if Larian is holding you hostage.
The review is 2,000 words of unadulterated worship. Not a single paragraph that doesn't contain at least one superlative. 'Best,' 'greatest,' 'most ambitious,' 'unprecedented.' At one point I thought I was reading a thesaurus entry for 'awesome.' This isn't criticism, it's a Hallmark card.
To be fair, BG3 is probably the closest thing to a 10/10 that came out that year. But a perfect score review should still read like journalism, not like a wedding toast. Tell me what's wrong with it. Tell me who WON'T like it. Tell me literally anything that isn't praise. A 10/10 with no meaningful criticism is a press release with extra steps.
6/10 for the review. It's correct but cowardly.
